Rollins
College was named one of the top producers of Fulbright Scholars among master’s
institutions across the nation. The
Fulbright program, sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs
of the U.S. Department of State, is the largest international exchange program
in the country.
Since
Fulbright began awarding grants in 1951, Rollins has produced 42 scholars. For
the 2012-13 school year, six Rollins students will be presented Fulbright grants,
which will enable the students to conduct research and academic study projects
in an international host country.
“At
Rollins, our mission is to educate students for global citizenship and
responsible leadership,” said President Lewis Duncan. “We are proud that our
scholars will be among the nearly 2,000 students from the U.S. who travel
abroad each year through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program.”
Rollins most recent scholars
traveled to six countries on three continents and spent their time teaching
English as a foreign language. Through daily cultural exchange, the students developed
a mutual understanding between people of the U.S. and other countries.
The Fulbright program provides the
opportunity for students and professionals to teach, conduct research and
contribute to finding solutions to shared international issues.
The 2013-14 Fulbright grant recipients will be named
later this spring.
