Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation Donates $1 Million to Rollins
August 24, 2012
The
Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation recently donated $1 million to help fund the
redesign and expansion of the Archibald Granville Bush Science Center at
Rollins College. The donation marks the milestone of the Edyth Bush Charitable
Foundation awarding more than $100 million in grants since its inception nearly
40 years ago.
The $1 million donation was instrumental in helping achieve a fundraising goal of
$2.5 million, a contingency of the Charles Rice family’s lead gift of $5
million to the project. The $27.5 million redesign and expansion of the
Archibald Granville Bush Science Center will reinforce the centrality of math
and the sciences to a Rollins liberal arts education. Construction is under
way, with completion expected in August 2013.
“We
are honored to carry on the trust imparted to us by our founder,” said David
Odahowski, president of the Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation.”The Foundation’s
spirit of accountability goes beyond just writing a check, to leveraging all
possible resources to create positive change in the community, now and for
generations to come.”
The
Archibald Granville Bush Science Center positions Rollins to boost research and
provide students with the most interactive and engaging learning experiences
available. The
number of students studying science at Rollins has increased in recent years,
and that trend is expected to continue. Rollins students majoring in the
science and math fields have increased by more than 12 percent compared to
2010.
“We’re
thrilled to be a part of this significant milestone for the Edyth Bush
Charitable Foundation,” said Rollins College President Lewis Duncan. “The
Foundation has enriched countless lives in our community. Its impact can be
felt across Central Florida and beyond.”
