A flurry of activity continuously sweeps through Rollins each week. Whether academic, cultural or entertaining in nature, these happenings embody the College’s passionate commitment to excellence, innovation, community and fun. Take a look at what happened recently at Rollins…

MECCA, short for Middle Eastern Cultures and Cuisine Association, sponsored a Girl's Belly Dancing Night on Thursday, January 27 at in the Alfond Sports Center to kick off their semester. The class was taught by professional belly dancer and Rollins Alumna, Ashleigh Markel.

On February 1, The Black Jew Dialogues used comedy to give audience members new insight into the true nature of prejudice and how our inability to face these biases separates us in ways that we may not even think about. This event was sponsored by the Jewish Student Union, the Black Student Union, Jewish Studies Department, and the Office of Multicultural Affairs.

Library Archives Hosted Program on Zora Neale Hurston IMG_4001-2-2

To celebrate the legacy of Zora Neale Hurston and her historical connections with Rollins College, Olin Library Archives & Special Collections hosted a group of visitors from the Zora Neale Hurston Festival on January 27. Professors of English Maurice O'Sullivan and Kenneth Curry presented research on Hurston's performances at Rollins in the early 1930s and her impact on the College, students and the community.

Rollins celebrated the coming of the “Year of the Rabbit” on January 27 during a Chinese New Year event held in Strong Hall. This event was sponsored by the Office of International Programs, Department of Modern Languages, the China Center, EducAsian, as well as the Asian American Student Association and the Chinese Student Association both of which are overseen by the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA).

As a new club on campus, MECCA has been working hard to plan events that uphold their mission of educating people about the Middle East in fun and engaging ways. Club president Sara Mack (Class of 2011) says that her hope is to have this class offered again on a more regular basis in the future.
