Join in Celebrating International Education Week

International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of their efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.

November 16

- 4th Annual International Photo Contest Exhibit Opening: (4- 6 p.m. Cornell Campus Center, Darden Lounge) Refreshments from Portugal will be served.
November 17
- Lunch menu in Skillman Dining Hall—featured dish from Lebanon
- Dinner menu in Skillman Dining Hall—featured dish from Australia
- Tapestry of Diversity: (4-5 p.m. Cornell Campus Center, Darden Lounge)- Reception for the opening of the exhibit prepared by the Honors RCC—Out of the Melting Pot and Into the Fire: Immigrants’ Experiences in the U.S.
- International R-Journalist Skype Session: (5-6 p.m. Bush 120)- Chat with Omar Rachid (Class of 2011) studying in France.
November 18
- Lunch menu in Skillman Dining Hall—featured dish from Trinidad & Tobago
- Dinner menu in Skillman Dining Hall—featured dish from Nigeria
- Study Abroad to Career Abroad Webinar: (2 p.m. Office of Career Services, 170 Fairbanks)- This webinar will guide students through common international experience alternatives available, describe the globalism skill set students need to be successful and show soon to be graduates how to identify and apply for employment abroad.
- Rollins World Cup soccer tournament: (3-5 p.m. Mills Lawn)- Student teams will represent different countries in this World Cup soccer-style competition.
November 19

- IEW CultureFest 09: (11:30 a.m- 2 p.m., Cornell Campus Center, Skillman Hall & Darden Lounge)
- Annual Flag Celebration addition of flags in Skillman Hall representing our international student population
- Iron Chef cooking competition by Sodexo chefs
- Steel Drum Band by Spirit of Steel
- Capoeira by Capoeira Orlando (an Afro-Brazilian martial art)
- Egyptian Bellydance by Ashleigh Markel (Class of 2010)
- Chinese Acrobatics by SinoElite Acrobats
- Hawaiian Hula & Tahitian Otea dance by Zana Fejzic (Class of 2010)
- Tahitian Otea Workshop following performance—students are welcome to learn some dance moves!
- International Marketplace sample street market food from Latin America
- Cultural Organizations students showcase their cultures
- Raffle Prizes include a free two-night stay at the Hilton Daytona Beach, a free massage at Massage Envy, and a Rollins gift basket!

International flags will also be displayed on Mills Lawn torepresent the countries of citizenship of our current international students.
