Dance Marathon Raises Funds in the Community

October 21, 2009

DMOn Saturday, October 17, the Rollins’ Dance Marathon team hosted the first Rollins Dance Marathon Yard Sale on Mary Jean Plaza. Students and members of the community came by to browse and support the cause.

“The goal of the yard sale was to both raise awareness about Dance Marathon and our beneficiary Children's Miracle Network, as well as provide an additional fundraising activity to help meet our overall goal of $40,000,” said Director Megan Lanier (Class of 2010).

Other students on the Dance Marathon Executive board, including Hospitality Director Cristina Martinez, Assistant Director Bailey Robb, and Entertainment Director Brittany Hollister, also promoted the sale.

That same day, Lanier and Patrick McKelvey (Class of 2009) supported the Children's Miracle Network Torch Relay at the Orlando Renaissance Hotel by organizing an event called Tie Dye Hard for the Kids. All proceeds from this event contributed to the Rollins' 2009 Dance Marathon total.

Dance Marathon is a national fundraising event supporting Children’s Miracle Network. Rollins students have worked with this non-profit organization for the past three years to save and improve the lives of children by raising money for children's hospitals. Events throughout October and November culminate in a 12-hour marathon experience held in the Cornell Campus Center that mixes dancing, music, games, food, and entertainment.
