SPECTRUM Receives Grant from the Metropolitan Business Association of Orlando
September 04, 2009
On September 3, the Metropolitan Business Association (MBA) of Orlando,
Central Florida’s GLBT Chamber of Commerce presented Rollins SPECTRUM
organization with a $500 grant, as part of the Pride Gives Back!
Program.
President David Baker-Hargrove presented the grant to Rollins and
shared that it serves to help promote and foster the growth of
Orlando’s GLBT businesses, which is MBA’s mission. The money given to
local businesses is raised through the Come Out With Pride Parade, the
largest GLBT Pride Parade in Florida, and comes full circle with going
back into the GLBT community.
Since 2007, the Pride Gives Back! Program has infused over $7,000 back
into the local community. Each month, the MBA Board of Directors
selects an organization to receive the grant. Previous recipients of this
grant have been: Hope and Help of Central Florida, The Human Rights
Campaign, Juno Foundation, PFLAG, Orlando Gay Chorus, The Center, and
Equality Florida.
President of SPECTRUM, Ashley Green (Class of 2011), received the award and spoke about how Rollins is ready to become more active in the community.
