Alexa Hartman '13 Awarded $500 Sigma Xi Grant-in-Aid of Research

Alexa Hartman '13 was recently awarded $500 as a Sigma Xi Grant-in-Aid of Research. Sigma Xi is the scientific research honor society. Hartman's grant is titled, "Regulation of MuRF1 activity on cardiomyocyte metabolism via mechanical stress", and will enable her to do summer research with Monte Willis, MD in the McAllister Heart Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Willis laboratory uses physiologic, molecular, and genetic approaches to study the role of protein degradation in heart failure and metabolism.
