June 25, 2012

Assistant Professor of Anthropology Jonathan R. Walz and Assistant Professor of Art & Art History / Classical Studies Robert Vander Poppen presented a paper at the 21st Biennial Meeting of the Society of Africanist Archaeologists (SAfA) in Toronto, Canada. The paper, titled "A Global Digital Heritage Narrative, First Steps: Pompeii to Possibilities in East Africa and South Asia," discussed the outcomes of their collaborative, digital approach to public archaeology launched at Pompeii in Italy with Rollins students in 2011. In the near future, Walz and Vander Poppen plan to extend The Pausanias Digital Heritage Project to Tanzania and India, where students from Rollins will engage the people and pasts of the Indian Ocean world in a substantive manner.
