On January 4 and 5, 2011, Assistant Professor of Economics Tonia Warnecke presented research at the 7th annual International Conference on Economics and Finance at IBS Bangalore, in southern India. The paper, titled "Organizing Informal Labor in India and Indonesia: A Discussion of Barriers and Best Practices of Overcoming Them," was co-authored by Warnecke and John Folkerth, a Rollins AMP/Crummer student. The paper addresses the majority of global workers engaged in vulnerable, informal work, focusing on organizing as an agent for change.
Warnecke was a member of the organizing committee for the conference, which joins economists and finance professionals together to share knowledge and critically evaluate policy solutions for global economic issues. This year's conference theme was “Recovery and After.”
